Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Renewal Course

This course is intended for students that are looking to renew (update) their PALS Certifications.  All participants are required to have an PALS Provider Card that has not yet expired to enroll in this program.

This advanced course is designed for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the management of respiratory and/or cardiovascular emergencies and cardiopulmonary arrest in pediatric patients. 

This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units such as physicians, physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, pharmacists and paramedics. Students learn how to use a systematic approach to quickly assess, identify the underlying cause, and treat pediatric patients in emergency situations.

This course will include:

• The systematic approach to assess and treat a seriously ill or injured infant/child
• Recognition and management of cardiac arrest
• Basic child and infant life support skills
• Effective resuscitation team dynamics
• Recognition and management of respiratory distress and failure, including airway management
• Recognition and management of shock, including vascular access
• Recognition and management of arrhythmias, including electrical therapy
• Post-cardiac arrest care

This will be a live, instructor-led course supported with video presentations, lecture, discussion, and hands-on learning.  

Successful completion of a MANDATORY precourse self-assessment is required prior to participating in this program and collected the first day of the program.  Instructions will be emailed to students upon enrollment. 

Students are required to have a current copy of the PALS textbook.  If a textbook is needed, you can purchase one through EMT Academy when you register for the course.
